The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing the approximately 2,800 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for a Project Intern, under the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health and Community Health Promotion Teams. The intern will be exposed to and participate in a variety of health programming project activities. The intern may have the opportunity to attend meetings or national conferences outside of the office.
Under the direction of the Lead Program Analyst for Breastfeeding, the internship is paid, fourteen to sixteen week opportunity with the possibility of extension. It is designed for students to obtain relevant work experience in order to be competitive for future positions in public health or other non-profit/for profit arenas, with an emphasis on public health breastfeeding and maternal and child health programs.

NATURE OF INTERNSHIP DUTIES
Administrative • Assist with identifying and posting relevant Web-based resources. • Provide administrative support to workgroup conference calls and in-person meetings. • Coordinate conference calls and/or webinars and take conference notes. • Assist with posting tools and resources to the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health or Community Health Promotion toolkits. • Provide other support to the projects as needed. •Topic area work includes: ?Maternal and Child Health: breastfeeding, family planning, women infants and children, preconception health; Adolescent Health: HPV and teen pregnancy prevention; ?Community Health Promotion: chronic diseases, diabetes and hypertension, Healthy in All Policies, tobacco ?Health communication, technical assistance/capacity building, program implementation, research and evaluation.
Research • Conduct literature reviews on topics related to maternal, child and adolescent health, community health and chronic disease •Assist with development, translation, and dissemination efforts for NACCHO’s Breastfeeding Project or Community Health Promotion Projects •Assist with drafting reports, publications, issue briefs and concept papers. •Conduct semi-structured interviews, with assistance of other MCAH or Community Health Promotion staff. •Assemble and code interview data. •Identify key themes to include in a case study. •Analyze Data.
Writing • Summarize information for internal and external dissemination (e.g. meeting summaries, NACCHO publications, electronic newsletters, and Web sites). • Communicate with NACCHO staff, members, and partners to carry out project activities. •Assist with development of a compendium of case studies and success stories from MCAH or Community Health Promotion programs at local health departments and communities. •Work collaboratively with Lead Analyst and other staff to draft sections of a publication based on project activities. •Assist with development of issue briefs and other publications. •Assist with development of content for NACCHO website. •Assist with development of policy statement justifications.
Graduate student or senior undergraduate in public health, health education, or related field preferred (currently in school or recently completed). •Medium-level computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Word required. •Medium-level skills with Web editing preferred. •Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

WORK DURATION & CONDITIONS •Negotiable and flexible between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm; 20 to 37.5 hours per week. The internship is paid by hour worked. NACCHO will work with intern to facilitate academic credit. •Internship duration and schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern; •Must conform to NACCHO dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
