CARDIAC DEVICE/ARRHYTHMIA TECH II
The Arrhythmia Technician II is responsible for training new arrhythmia/device clinicians acting in the preceptor role. Active role in educating other health care professionals as well as the community. Assist facilitate upgrades with IT for devices and software. Actively shadows with AV/VV optimization. Independently troubleshoots diaphragmatic stimulation.
- Conduct patient education and instruction on the use of event monitors, Holter monitors, pacemakers and ICD's, including the use of trans-telephonic transmitter. • Interrogate, program and report on cardiac device evaluations. Notify Provider of significant patient symptoms and/or arrhythmia. Analyze rhythm strips for appropriate device function. Advanced arrhythmia and EKG recognition and interpretation. Troubleshoot transtelephonic pacemaker transmissions, remote monitoring and in office device interrogations. • Manage all aspect of remote monitoring services including independently download, analyze and report on remote interrogations. Notify Provider of significant patient symptoms and/or arrhythmia. Notify Providers of important remote device alerts and addresses these in a safe and timely manner. • Schedule and perform event monitor and Holter monitor patient hook-ups. • Schedule, perform and analyze pacemaker evaluations via phone. • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain efficiency and provide high quality of care in the cardiology department in conjunction with the AHA, ACC and HRS guidelines. • Develop and deliver various presentations regarding cardiac devices and arrhythmias to other health care providers and clinical staff as well as the community. • Facilitate upgrades with IT on devices and software. • Download, analyze and report on ICD remote interrogations. Notify physician or mid-level provider of significant patient complaints and/or arrhythmia. • Analyze and create reports on outreach and company representative device evaluations • Print Holter monitor reports from sites requiring only results, obtain physician analysis, and distribute results to the respective sites. • Download and perform Holter monitor analysis and scanning. Create report on findings and notify appropriate physician if critical findings are observed. • Provide leadership to colleagues, students and other team members to ensure that workloads are distributed fair and equal. • Perform other duties as assigned by practice manager or physician.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, conductive system, and ability to interpret cardiac arrhythmias. • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. • Demonstrate strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. • Demonstrate the skill in operating a personal computer and various software packages. • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
- Ability to interrogate, program and report on pacemaker and ICD interrogations. • Ability to download, evaluate and report on remote ICD interrogations. • Ability to create reports on device evaluations performed in clinics and by company representatives. • Ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner. • Must possess strong analytical and mathematical skills. • Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and families. • Must possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism. • Occasional travel is required
- Graduate from one of the following healthcare educational programs: IBHRE, Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician, or Bachelor or Associate degree in biology, human physiology, healthcare or equivalent required. • IBHRE certification preferred. • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required. • 1 year relevant experience as an Arrhythmia Technician I required.
