The Genetic Counselor is responsible for the evaluation and counseling of individuals and families regarding cancer risk and risk management, including those at risk of genetic disorders, hereditary disease and birth defects in the Cancer Risk and Prevention Program at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Provides information to healthcare providers or to individuals and families concerned with the risk of inherited conditions. Advises individuals and families to support informed decision making and coping methods for those at risk. May help conduct research related to genetic conditions or genetic counseling. Assists with the collection of data and design of clinical trials.
Minimum Requirements: * 1 or more years in genetic counseling is preferred. * Completion of training in a formal genetic counseling program (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree). * American Board of Genetic Counseling eligibility or certification is preferred.
