The Activity Therapy Manger is responsible for managing, planning, and implementing activity services for hospital programs. As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, responsibilities include defining and implementing treatment goals and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients. The Activity Therapy Manager will create a schedule of activities to meet the needs of each specific population within the hospital and will ensure the quality of care provided to the patients at all times. To ensure quality programming the Activity Therapy Manager will manage the schedule for department employees and staff to meet the needs of the patients and the facility in a fiscally responsible manner and will be responsible for hiring and training of new employees as well as disciplinary actions with the involvement of the Director of Clinical Services and Director of Human Resources. The Activity Therapy Manager will develop and implement appropriate Performance Improvement Plans to improve the overall performance and quality of care provided in the department, these PI Plans will be reported monthly to the PI Team. This position is responsible for the ordering of necessary supplies and equipment for the department in accordance with facility budgetary guidelines. Leadership 1. Ensure that a system is developed to provide continuity of care and communication with patients. 2. Ensure that all staff members deliver care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Practice. 3. Implement program policies and procedures and acts as a resource to the staff. 4. Ensure the program complies with The Joint Commission, and the State of Arizona patient rights regulatory standards. 5. Conduct and maintain records of monthly program meetings. 6. Assign staff according to patient needs 7. Evaluate program effectiveness and formulate plans for improvement. 8. Develop staffing schedules in accordance with patient needs for recreation therapy staff. Assessment Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment in patients' physical and mental health condition/needs. Observe and document changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals. Communicate changes in patient's condition to Doctor, Director of Clinical Services, therapist, or Charge Nurse. Provide assessment in psychosocial/leisure and recreational skills development/deficiency. Interventions Ensure timely documentation of interventions and ensure interventions are based on the patient's Treatment Plan. Apply appropriate crisis intervention techniques, as required. Assist patients in achieving their optimum level of independent functioning. Facilitate recreation therapy groups or provide 1:1 interventions as assigned, for psychiatric, behavioral, chemically dependent patients. Document services rendered in accordance with established criteria. Maintain current documentation in daily progress notes, including the patient's name, date of therapy, name of therapeutic group/intervention, and patient's progress towards goal. Milieu Effectively plan and implement activity therapy for each hospital program. Monitor therapeutic space, supplies and equipment and ensure they are kept in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Utilize advanced knowledge of counseling and therapeutic concepts and methods for determining therapeutic services for psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. Demonstrate knowledge of group dynamics as well as therapy and practice of group processing. Participate in Holiday Programming planning and facilitation all treatment programs. Performance Accountability Demonstrate excellent guest relations in communication and cooperation, assisting patients, licensed practitioners, co-workers, and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner. Act as an advocate for patient's and assure patient rights are upheld. Attend program meetings and maintain related records. Provide direction, education, and in-service to other unit personnel regarding activity therapy. Participate in performance improvement activities (i.e. in-services, conferences or seminars). Utilize time constructively and in an organized manner to accomplish assigned responsibilities, delegate duties to other personnel as appropriate, and demonstrate good judgment when making decisions. Attend treatment team meetings and maintain related records. Adhere to facility, department and Corporate Personnel Policies and Procedures. Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled. Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality. Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information. Teaching Model and teach appropriate social skills. Teach coping skills, stress/anger management, relaxation, symptom management, sober living, leisure education, communication/social skill, self-esteem, and physical fitness techniques to patients. Carry out teaching activities identified in the treatment plan. Treatment Planning Provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to therapy, treatment interventions, and therapeutic objectives, as appropriate and necessary. Contribute to treatment plan with specific goals and interventions to be achieved in therapeutic activities.
