We are seeking a web developer to build out web-based resources for the ClinGen consortium. (www.clinicalgenome.org). The successful candidate for this position will work with a group of genetic researchers and clinicians at institutions around the country to specify and build a user interface for discovery of clinically relevant genetic information curated by other groups within the consortium.
The successful candidate will also work with the Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute to assist in structuring and querying data and presenting it to researchers in a format suitable for analysis. The candidate will need to query data housed in the electronic health record and combine it in a harmonious schema with data collected in person and through online surveys. This data will be used for grant reporting and scientific research.
Reviews, analyzes, modifies, creates, debugs, assists in design, and tests web applications using modern development methodologies and tools. Provides key insight in design and participates in application architecture discussions. Required to maintain continuing education on the ever-changing web development tool sets. Is a key player on a multidisciplinary team and will engage in all aspects of the application development life-cycle as needed for each project to be successful. Works directly with the business to ensure the project is meeting the business needs. Is expected to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction
This position reports to the director of the Autism and Developmental Medicine Center
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Understands assigned tasks and ask for clarification when necessary.
*Works with other technical staff to complete assignments.
*Implements in code and document all system changes based on assignments and time lines.
*Follows department coding and user interface guidelines.
*Provides code review, testing, debugging, technical documentation, general testing instructions, assistance in go-live planning, assistance in go-live moves, and post-live support.
*Communicates any and all progress, roadblocks, issues to the team and management in a timely manner.
*Provides training and documentation to team members on new development assignments.
*Assists with training of new staff members.
*Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
*Assist with deployment automation configuration
*Assist with monitoring and ensure application availability for end users.
• Maintain and expand REDCap database with data from electronic health records, online surveys, and in-clinic assessments.
• Assist with grant data reporting.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
WEB DEVELOPMENT-Mastery of at least one web development framework or technology stack, for example Ruby on Rails, Laravel, or Django.
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES--Mastery of at least one programming language, proficiency in at least two more. Clojure, Ruby and PHP preferred. Proficiency in functional programming techniques preferred.
SOFTWARE DEPLOYMENT--Knowledge of deployment automation and/or containerization technologies: e.g. Ansible, Docker, Puppet, Chef
NETWORKING-Understanding of the OSI model, ability to set up and configure TCP/IP based services and troubleshoot connection issues.
SECURITY-Proficiency in internet security best practices and public key cryptography standards.
SYSTEMS SOFTWARE INFRASTRUCTURE-Knowledge of software technology, and the ability to plan global, regional and local software architecture and infrastructure components.
COMPUTER FACILITIES MANAGEMENT-Knowledge of and the ability to design, construct, operate and maintain computer facilities in order to promote data usage in business environments.
SYSTEM AND CONSOLE OPERATIONS-Knowledge of and the ability to operate computer systems to run the production, develop processes and perform system maintenance tasks.
HARDWARE INFRASTRUCTURE-Knowledge of and the ability to design, implement and integrate It hardware for its use in business environments.
IT SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT-Knowledge of and the ability to utilize a variety of technical tools to guarantee service availability and ensure It system performance.
IT ENVIRONMENT-Knowledge of organization's total Information Technology (IT) environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science Degree or technical diploma in Computer Science or Information Science required.
Minimum of four years’ work experience in web application development required.
Minimum of eight years’ experience of demonstrated professional success in the area of web development using the specific team technology stack may be considered equivalent to the educational requirement.
