Responsible for supporting clinical research as coordinator for multiple research studies and clinical trials within inpatient and outpatient care units of the Geisinger Health System. Serves in an expanded role to assess the appropriateness of patients for clinical research protocols. Under the direction of the physician (Principal Investigator), sees patients in the clinic and hospital to collect data required for the research protocols. Accountable for adherence to all policies and procedures surrounding this process and for maintaining current knowledge on these policies from IRB, FDA, ICH, GCP and other sources.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Reports to Clinical Trials Office Operations Manager and Principal Investigators for studies.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrated strong working knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrated current knowledge of GCP and ICH guidelines, definitions and reporting requirements for adverse events, IRRB issues and guidelines, elements of informed consent, FDA codes and regulatory issues.
Demonstrated computer literacy in a MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ACCESS plus internet use.
Demonstrated excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of staff, external sponsors, and research subjects.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and meet timelines in a dynamic workplace environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited college/university with a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline or health related field (Medical Technician, Respiratory Therapy, etc.), and two years related experience
Associate Degree in a scientific discipline or health related field and four years related experience, or
Licensed Practical Nurse with a minimum of five years related experience
Research experience or demonstration of research interest required.
Certification through the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals preferred. Achievement of certification after two years experience in the position required.
