Child Life Specialist Maine Medical Center Scarborough, ME Full Time, Days Maine Medical Center is seeking a Child Life Specialist in Scarborough. The position will primarily provide child life services in the Pediatric Outpatient Oncology Clinic and in other outpatient clinical areas as needed. Under general supervision, the Child Life Specialist will plan and implement a therapeutic program for the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. S/he will plan and provides age and developmentally appropriate experiences to ensure cognitive and emotional growth. This position will add to the quality of patient care through observation, documentation and communication with other members of the health care team. S/he will teach, supervise and evaluate work of volunteers and student interns and serve as a resource on child development issues. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or a related field and completion of a Child Life Internship Program.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and its implications and the ability to prepare required documentation at a level generally acquired through nine to twelve months of on-the-job training.
- Analytical skills in order to design therapeutic activities to meet desired objectives, observe and note significant patient behaviors.
- Advanced interpersonal skills required to interact with patients and families.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when observing and instructing patients, and recording notes and observations.
- Ability to operate a variety of audio-visual equipment.
