The Rehab Tech is an unlicensed person who is trained on the job to meet the specific needs of the facility and is cross-trained to assist in the provision of direct patient care in the therapy areas and on the patient care units.
Tasks may be delegated to the Rehab Tech only after insuring that she/he has been appropriately trained for the performance of the task.
The therapist or nurse is totally and wholly responsible for the acts or actions performed by a Rehab Tech functioning in the rehabilitation setting.
" Duties or functions which the Rehabilitation Technician shall not perform include, but are not limited to:
" Interpret physician's orders, referrals or prescriptions for nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, therapeutic recreation or other therapies
" Act on behalf of the therapist/nurse in any matter related to direct patient care which requires judgment or decision-making except when an emergency condition exists
" Act independently or without direct supervision of a licensed caregiver as assigned
License or Certification:
Current CPR certification preferred
Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:
High school graduate or GED or equivalent preferred
Previous experience in a health care setting preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Able to perform therapy functions in the provision of patient care; ability to lift, move, and reposition patients
General clerical skills
Able to communicate effectively with staff, patients, families
