We are currently looking for an outgoing and initiative taking Child Life Specialist to join our motivated and enthusiastic team of 10 CCLS and 1 Playroom Coordinator. The ideal candidate is someone who is motivated to work independently on an assigned unit while demonstrating a strong aptitude for teamwork.
We are currently seeking a full time Child Life Specialist to work from 8am-4:30 pm, weekdays in a 14 bed, family & team centered Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The position allows for daily collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and associated services. Our department is well funded, allowing for creative and innovative programming. In addition to clinical work, there are many opportunities for developing your skills and talents. There are multiple summer camp programs for children with special & medical needs within a few miles of the hospital, in which Child Life staff are involved. We are actively involved in and directly benefit from both the Children’s Miracle Network and Spirit of Children campaigns raising over one million dollars annually.
JOB SUMMARY: As a member of the Child Life Team, plans, develops, and provides Child Life programming for a given clinical area to best meet the psychosocial, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families. Using age-appropriate play, CCLS considers the issues children face in health care settings and assesses patient needs for: normal growth and development, education, preparation, medical play, coping strategies or other issues to help them in their mastery of the environment.
CCLS is responsible for providing child life interventions to a specific patient population within the policies and procedures of the Geisinger Health System. All meet the required qualifications, as outlined by the nationally known Association of Child Life Professionals to provide care for patients in the assigned pediatric clinical areas or other patient care areas, as needed. Required to maintain professional certification through continuing education opportunities. Directly accountable to Child Life Supervisor. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient and family centered care.

Demonstrates ability to be a team member across multiple professional disciplines.
Demonstrates ability to work independently and a willingness to learn hospital routines, policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development / Human Growth and Development, Education or Psychology.
Must have fulfilled a minimum of one Child Life internship (at least 480 hours) under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Must be Child Life certified or certification eligible according to the standards set forth by the Association of Child Life Professionals. Certification required within the first year of employment.
At least one year experience working as a Child Life Specialist with children in a health care setting preferred.
Active membership in the Association of Child Life Professionals required within the first year of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
