Vacancy #: 966502 Recruitment Range: Commensurate with qualifications Closing Date: Open Until Filled Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University is seeking applications for a Department Chair. The successful candidate will be expected to build and sustain an inclusive climate for all faculty and students. The Department of Radiation Oncology has outstanding clinical, education and research programs and employs an expert team delivering latest radiation technologies to the region. The department is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology and offers a wide array of treatment options to raise the quality of life of patients by maximizing results and minimizing side-effects. The department consists of faculty committed to providing outstanding clinical care using a multidisciplinary approach to treat a broad spectrum of tumors and cancer types. The facility has the latest in modern equipment including TrueBeam linear accelerators, an Icon GammaKnife, an Accuray Cyberknife M6 with MLC, and a Flexitron HDR brachytherapy unit. The supporting software systems are Aria, Eclipse, Velocity, Accuray Precision, GammaPlan, Brianlab and Oncentra. These together with our expert teams provide services in 3D-conformal, gated/Breath hold, IMRT/VMAT, SBRT/SABR, SRS and LDR/HDR Brachytherapy. Faculty research interests are varied, and significant collaborations exist with investigators. The Radiation Oncology team supports Masters and PhD students and a Medical Physics Residency Program with one new resident per year in a 2 year program. Job Duties The Chair will participate in radiation oncology clinical practice by providing direct patient care; and actively participate in the department, school, and cancer center strategic planning, implementing a vision for development and growth. Specific duties of the Chair include, but are not limited to, the following: - Responsibility for all department clinical, education and teaching operations including ensuring compliance with any and all regulating agencies and policies;
- Scheduling and monitoring the teaching and patient care activities of the department;
- Representing the faculty of the department;
- Organizing and leading faculty recruiting efforts;
- Promoting effective professional relationships within the department, school, and University;
- Evaluating annually each faculty member’s performance;
- Managing the operation of the department’s offices and staff, including making administrative appointments within the department;
- Giving due consideration to the recommendations of departmental committees;
- Designating the use of physical facilities and other resources available to the department;
- Managing funds assigned to the department;
- Convening departmental faculty meetings at least quarterly at a time to be announced at the beginning of the academic year;
- Assisting faculty in their professional and career development;
- Holding faculty accountable for adherence to University policies, provisions of the ECUFaculty Manual and of the Brody School of Medicine Unit (Governance) Code;
- Increasing department extramural grant support;
- Collaborating with other BSOMClinical Departments on clinical services;
- Serving on school, division, and/or University committees as requested, and
- Any additional duties as delegated or assigned by the Dean of the Brody School of Medicine.
Minimum Education/Experience - Medical degree from an appropriately accredited institution
- Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology
- Five years successful faculty experience, including leadership experience, in an academic health center
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate a collaborative team culture
- Demonstrated success working effectively with multiple constituencies in a collaborative and interdependent environment
- Success building successful clinical and academic services and/or programs
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and mentor faculty
- Demonstrated success in developing a funded clinical or translational research program in cancer.
- Demonstrated outstanding clinical ability
