Ashley Addiction Treatment Inpatient program is seeking a Family Counselor. The Family Counselor implements the Family Program through motivational counseling and assistance to families so they may better understand the disease process of alcoholism and chemical dependency, the relapse process, recovery, relapse prevention, and how it affects family members/significant others. One position schedule is Sunday – Thursday; the other schedule is Tuesday - Saturday.Hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm.
Conducts Family Program, including lectures, films/videos and discussions, multi-family group therapy and one-on-one counseling. (Note: When "family" is used, it shall also include "significant other" as necessary.)
Works with family members through conjoint sessions so they may better understand chemical dependency and provide support for the patient.
Documents each family member's progress and participation in the program, including attendance.
Presents lectures to entire patient and family community to enhance the understanding of family issues as needed.
Refers family members to other continuing care services needed; maintains resource files for further referrals.
Initiates and maintains computerized record keeping as appropriate.
Participate in monthly Family Wellness team meetings.
Performs duties of Family Program Manager in their absence.
Assists with Family Wellness Program Administrative duties including communication and documentation as needed.
Participates in Quality Improvement Programs, including committee membership when nominated.
This position interacts directly with our mental health patients. In that role, in addition to performing your regular job duties, you also serve as a role model and authority figure to our patients. As such it is critical that as direct patient care staff, you ensure that your competence or objectivity is not or could not reasonably be expected to be impaired due to mental, emotional, physiological, pharmacological, substance abuse or personal problems (COMAR Chapter 03 – Code of Ethics - .06 B1).
Perform other duties as assigned.
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from an accredited institution.
Must have at least (5) five years' experience in family counseling or equivalent; Master’s degree and (2) two years’ experience in family counseling preferred.
Must be able to speak and write clearly; must have excellent listening skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel.
Able to interpret educational material, assessments, and treatment plans so that family members understand contents; able to probe and draw out thoughts, feelings, problems, concerns and fears of the patient's family.
Licensure & certifications appropriate in family therapy; LGPC, LCPC, LMSW, LCSW-C, LGMFT, LMFT will be considered or you must be scheduled to obtain licensure within the next 6-12 months.
