The School of Human Ecology at Louisiana Tech University is seeking a dedicated instructor to teach and mentor students in their career path to becoming child life specialists and to provide coordination, direction, and vision for the child life program.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The faculty member will be expected to:
Teach undergraduate courses in child life and human development
Be involved in Human Development and Family Science decision making and curriculum development of child life program
Supervise students completing child life practicum and internship experiences with the potential for supervising other School of Human Ecology students involved in practicum
Work with and travel to child life staff in area hospitals to ensure high-quality practicum experiences for students
Serve as faculty advisor to the Child Life Student Association
Advise and recruit undergraduate students
Participate in professional, university, and community service
Be active participant in unit accreditation, certification, and endorsement
Be actively involved with the Association of Child Life Professionals
THE SCHOOL: The Human Development and Family Science program is housed within the School of Human Ecology in the College of Applied and Natural Sciences (www.ans.latech.edu). Human Development and Family Science programs include: B.S. concentrations in Child Life, Child Development Specialist, and Family Science; a National Council on Family Relations CFLE approved concentration in Family Science; An interdisciplinary gerontology minor; Child Life concentration meets the academic standards for internship application and the program is under review for endorsement by the Association of Child Life Professionals; Child Development Specialist concentration graduates are eligible for the Ancillary Teaching Certificate through the Louisiana Department of Education; An interdisciplinary graduate certificate program in Dynamics of Domestic and Family Violence. Other programs in the School include: B.S. degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies; B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics; M.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics; and a Dietetic Internship. The School of Human Ecology has an enrollment of approximately 220 undergraduate and 40 graduate students and 13 faculty positions. Master’s in Child Life (preferred), Child Development, or related field; one degree must be in Human Development and Family Science or related field
Be a certified child life specialist
Have 4,000 hours paid experience as a child life specialist OR a minimum of two years’ experience teaching child life subject matter. Clinical experience preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate students/emerging professionals
Demonstrated potential for teaching face-to-face and online classes
Experience seeking out and participating in professional development activities to inform progressive, creative, and evidence-based teaching
Experience in career and academic advising of undergraduate students/emerging professionals
Familiarity with recruitment and retention of undergraduate students/emerging professionals
Familiarity with supervision of clinical/internship experiences
Active involvement with Association of Child Life Professionals
