Work Hours/Shift: - Friday Saturday and Sunday 6:30am - 7pm
You Will Be Responsible For: - Collects patient, physician and test order information in order to create patient accounts. This includes verifying patient identification, insurance information, physician credentials and test order requirements.
- Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, which may include:

- Blood specimen collection via venipuncture or capillary puncture for all age groups
- Continually maintains workspaces neat and organized by cleaning and disinfecting selected or assigned laboratory equipment. Keeps lab areas and spaces properly supplied.
- Follows AdventHealthâ™s system wide communication model.
- Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing as needed to support assigned department. This includes:
- Performs various support activities to facilitate operation of assigned department or work area, which include answering the telephone, clerical and receptionist duties (i.e., faxing, phones, pneumatic tube system, reports).
Qualifications
What Will You Need: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: - Associate degree and/or higher-level education, or completed coursework in Health Services Administration or other related medical or business field
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED: - National Certification in Phlebotomy if phlebotomy duties are required

Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant perform various laboratory support procedures in assigned areas which may include phlebotomy and/or specimen processing in clinical and anatomical pathology areas. Performs any of the following non-technical functions under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager or director. - Specimen collection and transporting
- Specimen processing; trouble shooting sample and order discrepancies
- Submission and monitoring of specimens submitted to referral laboratories; shipping samples to reference laboratories or facilities for consult; entering billing information
- Patient registration
- Perform equipment maintenance procedures
- Blood component preparation and issuance
- Receiving and inoculation of culture media
- Accession surgical cases requiring knowledge of anatomy; trouble shoot and escalate any missing surgical specimens; assign and distribute slides to pathologists
- Inventory and ordering of supplies
Work customarily involves practical knowledge in various laboratory procedures and support functions in pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
