The Coordinator, Clinical Nutrition Services coordinates all the activities associated with patient nutritional care in the diet office, on the patient units and oversees outpatient nutrition. The Coordinator, Clinical Nutrition Services performs all activities associated with patient nutritional care including patient assessment and re-assessment of nutritional status and nutritional counseling to patients and families. The Coordinator, Clinical Nutrition Services is responsible for managing clinical and diet office staff (Clinical Dietitians, Nutrition Technicians, Diet Clerks, Host/Hostess). This position is responsible for training of diet office/clinical staff/host & hostess, their job competencies and annual evaluations. The Coordinator, Clinical Nutrition Services is involved in revising/updating clinical policies/diet addendums as needed, interdisciplinary patient rounds, partnership councils, Nutrition Value Added Team (VAT), Nutrition Support Team, community education, outpatient nutrition services, performance improvement activities and/or research projects, and other related duties as assigned. Assist the Director to meet clinical budget/hospital goals. Performs various administrative duties as needed to assist the department Director.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Ability to complete nutrition assessments on all patients' nutritional risks levels and enter all pertinent data (clinical notes, acuity, follow-up, etc) into the electronic medical record.
Ability to provide nutritional counseling to all patients on medical nutrition therapy as per scientific literature and best practices.
Apply expertise in normal and therapeutic nutrition, medical terminology and abbreviations; nutritional assessment and care planning; nutrition counseling and verbal and written communication as documented in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Coordinate the department's PI Program any department specific projects
Coordinate the patient meal service between the diet office and the production staff
Provide excellent customer service to ensure patients' needs are met
Communicate effectively with the Physicians and ancillary staff to implement nutrition recommendations and improve patient services.
Demonstrates the ability to apply infection control policies/procedures for safe food handling.
Demonstrate the ability to teach the bariatric class and participate in community education as needed
Ability to meet clinical budget/hospital goals.
Ability to revise and update clinical policies/diet addendums as needed
