Work Hours/Shift: Full Time You Will Be Responsible For:

- Collect and analyze family pedigree and patient histories regarding potential genetic diseases.
- Perform genetic risk calculations and educate families about potential health risks.
- Provide patients and their families with genetic testing and interpret the results.
- Develop, plan and implement evidenced-base strategies that increase the quality of care for pediatric and adult patients and ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
- Support and assist with data collection for process and quality improvement.
- Ensure the Administrator and Medical Directors are informed of pertinent topics and seek assistance and direction when confronted with unfamiliar procedures and techniques to ensure delivery of safe and effective patient care
- Coordinate with the Nurse Navigator regarding patient education and additional healthcare needs.
- Serve as an ongoing resource for patients and families; collaborate with other providers regarding attendance to the needs of the patients; assess patient learning style and health literacy to provide effective education
- Communicate and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all customers.
- Complete assigned work comprehensively and in a timely manner
- Track and monitor program progress/activity.
- Provide monthly reporting to Administration e.g., volume of patients, referral data, genetic testing/results and source of payment for genetic testing.
- Meet routinely (or as determined) with Medical Directors to review responsibilities, goals and program strategies from a clinical perspective.
- Meet with Executive Director as needed for all non-clinical program components
- Institute satisfaction surveys.
- Pursue funding sources for underserved patients.
- Develop working relationships to maximize programâ™s effectiveness and facilitate problem resolution across departmental, campus and physician/provider line.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to read, write and explain moderately complex information to hospital staff with a attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively in a supportive manner to patients, family, staff and physicians Ability to explain information to patients and families in manner the facilitates understanding Ability to observe assess, guide and evaluate others Ability to communicate timely and in an open and honest manner Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plans Flexibility in prioritization; critical-thinking/problem solving skills Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in a group setting KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED: - Computer skills such as Microsoft Work, Access, Excel and Outlook
- Knowledge of navigating in an Electronic Medical Record (Athena, Cerner)
- Program development
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: - Masterâ™s of Science Degree in Genetic Counseling
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: - Prior experience in genetic counseling
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED: - Board Eligible/Board Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics in Genetic Counseling
