Position Summary
TheMammography Technologist coordinates mammography and diagnostic procedures asassigned by the department. The Mammography Technologist functions as the firstline interface with customers and is successful in the accomplishment of theirimaging needs. In this role, the Mammography Technologist operates specializedimaging equipment (including computerized axial tomography, and breastultrasonography and/or mammography equipment) at proficiency levels notrequiring constant supervision of technical detail. Under the directions of theradiologist, performs those duties directly involved with a variety oftechnical procedures applying ionizing radiation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilitiesof the Job
Evaluatesand attends to patient's physical and emotional needs before, during and afterexams to ensure proper patient care and positive examination experience;Identifies appropriate test to be performed.
Producesquality radiographs in a reasonable amount of time to provide the radiologistand patient's physician with accurate and useful medical information.
Communicateswith and maintains proper relations personally and on the telephone with otherdepartments, Medical Center staff, M.D. offices, and patients' families toensure proper guest relations.
UtilizesR.I.S. and related interfaces as appropriate for job responsibilities tocontribute to integration and success of automated patient care goals.
Providesadditional information on x-ray requests to assist radiologists in dictatingall necessary findings for exam(s).
Prepareequipment for procedures to include cleanliness of exam area and equipment;Participates in and assists the physician during sterile diagnostic andinterventional procedures and exhibits knowledge of sterile technique andprocedural protocol.
Participatesin patient flow process to ensure that patients are seen in a timely andmedically efficient manner
Assistswith training of Radiologic Technologist (R.T.) students and new R.T. personnelto provide quality education, instruction and orientation to the RadiologyDepartment.
Maintains accuraterecord-keeping and clerical duties required for each exam to conform with JointCommission requirements and accurate billing procedures.
