You Will Be Responsible For:
Â·Determines identity and suitability of specimens when received, according to the laboratory policies and procedures.
Â·Assures test accuracy by performing and recording control testing, in accordance with departmental policy on each shift, performs tests in accordance with procedure manuals and reports results in a timely manner, as documented in test records.
Â·Recognizes, investigates and correctly resolves test discrepancies. When problems arise, takes appropriate action to investigate, address and notifies Laboratory Manager of follow-up.
Â·Reviews integrity of report by checking legibility and completeness prior to releasing, as observed by the Laboratory Manager.
Â·Accurately performs, records, transcribes or reviews proficiency testing material by the stated deadline, as evidenced in the survey evaluation results.
Â·Maintains instrumentation and department supplies in order to ensure efficient departmental operations.
Â·Performs and documents assigned equipment maintenance duties per shift according to maintenance manuals.
Â·Restocks department supplies on a regular basis to ensure adequacy of inventory, as documented on department checklist.
Â·Assists in troubleshooting and repair of equipment when needed and ensures problem resolution, as documented in maintenance records.
Â·Promotes and contributes positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental communication to ensure efficient departmental operation.
Â·Checks in with personnel on duty at start of shift to obtain pertinent information regarding procedure, instrumentation care, as observed by Laboratory Manager.
Â·Answers telephone and pages promptly and in a courteous manner, identifying self and department at all times.
Â·Ensures sufficient orientation of new employees unfamiliar with the department at all times.
Â·Relays information to on-coming shift and makes sure department is covered prior to leaving.
Â·Demonstrates good judgement in directing phone calls or questions to the appropriate department or individual.
Â·Develops student training programs and acts as an adjunct professor, if applicable.
Â·Independently handles resolution of complex problems and issues for all laboratory sections. Serves as escalation support for less experienced staff.
Â·Maintains appropriate departmental records and filing systems to ensure the expeditious retrieval of information and to comply with regulatory requirements.
Â·Ensures that results are properly filed and that data is recorded in a legible manner as evidenced in departmental records.
Â·Exhibits ability to perform essential computer operations pertaining to job duties.
Â·Performs outpatient ordering as defined in standard operating procedure, as needed.
Â·Maintains quality control, procedure manuals and records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Â·Recommends revisions to procedure manuals as needed to the Laboratory Manager.
Â·Understands and reviews regulatory guidelines and assists in preparation of departments for inspections as needed.
Â·Assists with evaluation of new tests and equipment as directed by Laboratory Manager.
Â·Assists with scheduling of staff members for the shift.
Â·Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
Â·Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
Â·Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment
Â·Recognizes that the attainment of knowledge is every employeeâ™s responsibility & accepts accountability for staying current on all written or electronic communication
Â·Performs other duties as assigned.
Â·Coordinates the laboratory workflow, processes, staff assignments, and services provided for assigned laboratory sections, adjusting as needed during the shift, to result in optimum patient care, throughput and patient experience.
Â·Responsible for ensuring equipment maintenance is performed timely, department sections are operating efficiently, regulatory requirements are met, and all other duties needed for successful operation of the laboratory.
Â·Serves as a liaison between staff, management and physicians, resolving routine matters for the shift and sections.
Â·Provides appropriate and regular feedback to the Laboratory Manager.
What will you need:
Â·Bachelorâ™s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
Â·Three years of clinical laboratory experience.
Â·Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification by ASCP or AMT Board of Certification
Â·Three to five years of leadership/management experience preferred
Reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for facilitating daily workflow for the laboratory, in addition to working an assigned bench. Will assist the Laboratory Manager as needed. Duties include leading licensed and unlicensed laboratory personnel, test performance and test reporting. Serves as a liaison and point of contact for physicians, management, staff and students. The Laboratory Supervisor is highly competent in all sections of the laboratory.
