The position of Staff Audiologist is located in the Audiology Service at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV. The duties and responsibilities are primarily carried out the outpatient setting with some services provided at the bedside in the inpatient setting The Staff Audiologist is responsible for providing audiological services to patients who reside in a large geographical area. Those patients displaying unusually severe and/or multiple impairments may be assigned to the position but with some supervision by a more experienced staff audiologist. The services provided by this individual are available not only to patients at the hospital in which the clinic is located; but also to patients at other VA hospitals in the region and patients who are geographically closer to it than any other Audiology Clinic. Duties may include but are not limited to: Identify and evaluate individuals with hearing disorders in the reception and perception of speech, language and other acoustic signals to a full range of patient complexity; Perform special audiological procedures for a diverse range of disease conditions for the purpose of differential diagnosis of auditory and balance disorders; Responsible for planning, delivering, and monitoring the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of patient-centered treatment and rehabilitative services for patients with significant physical and psychological complicating conditions; including, but not limited to, the selection and fitting of all types of hearing aids; programming of digital hearing aids; issuance of hearing protection devices for prevention of acoustic trauma for those individuals working in a noisy environment; selection and fitting of assistive devices and assistive listening devices such as personal and FM amplifiers, telephone amplifiers, radio or TV magnetic induction devices for special communication problems; and inspection, modification, and repair of amplification devices and ear molds; Responsible for the proper maintenance of the specialized electro-acoustic instrumentation; Complete all documentation in accordance with facility policy; Conduct, plan, and coordinate all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary audiology practice; Perform other ancillary assignments as assigned.
