The incumbent works in the Mental Health Triage Clinic of the Baltimore, MD VA Facility. Major Duties The GS-12 Senior Social Worker in the Mental Health Triage Clinic provides full day, same day, access to mental health services for Veterans who have either never engaged in mental health care or have been out of mental health treatment for 12 months or more. The Senior Social Worker assesses the psychosocial and environmental needs or dysfunctions that are secondary to, or exacerbating, the psychiatric problems. The Social Worker establishes and maintains a brief therapeutic relationship with the Veteran, family, and/or significant others, if appropriate, and formulates appropriate treatment referrals that address identified needs, stressors and problems. The Senior Social Worker completes suicide risk screens, assessments, and safety plans, clinical reminders, and patient education notes as indicated. The Senior Social Worker provides a warm hand off to the medication provider or Emergency Department, if clinically indicated. Working within the Hospital Based Psychiatry programmatic line, the Triage Clinic Senior Social Worker may cover the Emergency Department, Inpatient Psychiatry and/or Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry social work services The Senior Social Worker provides scheduled and unscheduled clinics slots daily to allow for maximum access to care based on the Veterans preferences. The Senior Social Worker will provide clinical services for the VAMHCS Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
