This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The incumbent is assigned as a Psychologist in the Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) program under Mental Health Service. The incumbent is located within Primary Care Service and is responsible for providing a variety of comprehensive mental health services to patients enrolled in the Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT). Major duties and responsibilities include: Clinical Responsibilities (90% of time) Serves as Team Member for an inter-professional clinical team: Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI), co-located with the Primary Care medical teams, with an emphasis on integration of mental health services within primary care. As a full clinical member of the PC-MHI Team, provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the primary care setting, especially in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and focused cognitive assessments. Provides a full range of psychological interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in primary care settings. Facilitates patient and family education appropriate to the primary care setting and the specific presenting mental or behavioral health issues. Provides consultation services for primary care providers to maximize the effectiveness of their interventions in reducing health-risk behaviors and enhancing health-promoting behaviors, with a significant emphasis on a prevention-oriented model of care. Supports PCP decision-making, building on PCP interventions and improving PCP-patient working relationships. Provides clinical care management when appropriate directly to an assigned cohort of patients. Provides the expertise and leadership so that the integrated care and collaborative practice model is fully implemented, allowing patients to remain with their Primary Care Provider (PCP) for the full range of their health care needs to the extent that this is clinically appropriate. Administrative/Program Evaluation/Outcome Measurement/Research (5% of time) Participates in clinical care management functions with members of the PC-MHI Team. Shares responsibility for team building. Actively works to support program planning, outcome evaluation, and staff development activities. Supports the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements if/when these become required for the clinical performance measures or best practice guidelines, using a data-driven quality assurance process. Monitors and establishes procedures to contribute to the improvement of population outcomes for both general primary care patients and for disease-specific populations (diabetes, hepatitis C, hypertension, COPD). Participates in program-wide outcome evaluation studies. Academic/Teaching/Training: (5% of time) Provides consultation and training to Primary Care Service Line staff in the identification and management of common mental and behavioral health disorders that present in a primary care setting. Develops programs together with other PC-MHI staff members for teaching and/or improving the PCP's core behavioral health skills. Supervises pre-doctoral and practicum Psychology trainees and may participate in the supervision of trainees in other disciplines, including medical and psychiatric residents assigned to the Primary Care Service for rotations. Develops and/or makes available relevant education and training programs for all Primary Care Service Line providers to ensure that culturally competent care is provided. Is involved in the development and on-going improvement of the Psychology Training Programs and actively participates in the Psychology Training Committee meetings. Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff on issues related to the function of the PC-MHI Team, and may provide in-service and/or invited grand round presentations to the medical center staff in areas directly related to the mission of the PC-MHI Team. Grade distinctions: At the GS-13 level, you would be performing the above duties and responsibilities as an independent licensed provider. At the GS-11 and GS-12 levels, psychologists function under the supervision of a licensed psychologist unless independently licensed and credentialed and privileged by the Medical Center.
