Trauma Recovery Services (TRS) at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System, Menlo Park Division, is seeking a full-time Clinical Psychologist to work in-person, primarily in the Men’s Trauma Recovery Program (MTRP) which falls under the umbrella of TRS. The MTRP is a 20-bed men’s residential PTSD treatment unit. During the pandemic the bed number has been 11. Residents on this unit are generally psychiatrically complex with a diagnosis of PTSD and co-occurring conditions as well as a history of multiple traumas.
Treatment is comprehensive and includes medical, psychopharmacological, spiritual, recreational, and psychological approaches. Alternative treatments that have typically been offered include art, dog training, yoga, and cycling. Some of the treatment during the pandemic has been through telehealth while some has been in-person. This is a dynamic treatment setting that values innovation and close collaboration in the provision of treatment which is primarily group treatment with additional individual work as needed (e.g., trauma work, CBT-I, DBT skills coaching, panic/anxiety, OCD treatment, cognitive testing). This is a primarily clinical role working within an interdisciplinary team.
Primary responsibilities include:
Screening program applicants
Conducting intake assessments
Facilitating/co-facilitating therapy groups
Trauma work utilizing CPT and PE
Involvement in patient treatment team meetings
Supervision of students (need to be CA licensed to supervise interns and fellows)
Treatment coordination
Assessments as needed
Collaborating with referral sources and other professionals involved in Veteran’s aftercare
In addition to these primary responsibilities, there is a wide range of opportunities to be involved in different ways in the provision of clinical care in this setting depending on the candidate’s interests and areas of expertise. The ideal candidate will have experience in CPT, PE, DBT, and substance use treatment, enjoy working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary setting, demonstrate flexibility, be able to adapt to changing priorities throughout the day, take initiative, and be a team player. There could be opportunities to be involved in research and/or assessment depending on the candidate’s interest.
Salary
$125,185 - $176,300 per year
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Telework: Available.
