The University of Illinois Biomedical Imaging Center and Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute at Carle Foundation Hospital are looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow for a three-year position in its newly formed, joint Advanced Imaging Center in Urbana, Illinois.
Specifically, the position will be directly connected to the new Siemens 7T Terra system, which was installed in early September 2020. The system joins two 3 T Prisma MRI systems at the Biomedical Imaging Center at the University of Illinois and several 1.5 T MRI systems, a 3 T Siemens Prisma system, and a 3T Siemens Vida system at Carle Foundation Hospital.
The postdoctoral position is linked to a recently funded project, the Champaign Urbana Population Study, which aims to create a large normative population neuroimaging database at 7 Tesla (https://cupopulationstudy.org). This will involve using this unique and powerful dataset to answer fundamental questions in cognitive neuroscience, clinical neuroscience, and the effects of lifespan, physical activity, and other biological variables on brain structure and function. The protocols and data processing pipelines being developed for this project will also be incorporated into other research projects at the Carle Illinois Advanced Imaging Center, including studies of specific patient populations such as those with traumatic brain injury, concussion, epilepsy, and a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. The project is led by Drs. Bruce Damon and Tracey Wszalek, and a variety of imaging scientists, neuroscientists, and clinicians serve as members of the study team and are available to serve as a primary advisor.
Previous experience and requirements:
PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related field (science discipline or field of specialty) required.
Experience in a research environment within a higher education, clinical, or lab setting.
Experience in research with time spent leading research projects and contributing to peer reviewed publications and articles in specialty field.
At least 4 years of graduate experience and/or at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in an MRI research group running human studies.
Applicants with experience using scientific computing software, including experience with imaging data analysis packages such as MATLAB, FSL, SPM, or AFNI will be given priority.
All applications received on or before February 28, 2022 will receive full consideration.
