VA Caribbean Healthcare System is a 1A Complexity Level facility that offers a wide range of health care services for Veterans in Puerto Rico, Vieques, Saint Thomas, and Saint Croix. Currently recruiting an Addiction Therapist (Licensed Master's) for their brand new state of the art Mental Health Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (DRRTP) located in San Juan, PR. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a). English Language Proficiency. LMAT candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education. (1) Hold a master's degree or higher in drug and alcohol studies or related behavioral health field from an accredited college or university. Foreign Education. There is no substitution for foreign education for this occupation; therefore, foreign education evaluation is not applicable. Licensure. Individuals appointed or reassigned to an LMAT position must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license in a jurisdiction for independent practice in the field of Alcohol and Drug Treatment. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Addiction Therapist (Licensed Master's) GS-11. Experience. One year of creditable experience comparable to the next lower grade (GS-9). Licensure. Candidates must possess a full, current and unrestricted license in a State for independent practice in the field of Alcohol and Drug Treatment. These are the KSA's for this subject position: (a) Skill to independently complete assessments of substance use disorders, treatment planning and continued care planning. (b) Skill to apply the principles, concepts and methods of counseling and therapies used in the treatment of individuals with SUDs. (c) Skill to collaborate and consult on medical or other psychiatric disorders as interrelated to SUDs. (d) Ability to apply various community-based recovery programs and resources in a treatment plan. Preferred Experience: Must be Proficient in spoken Spanish language. 2 years of experience in addiction assessment and treatment and/or Credentialed Alcoholism and/or Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). Physical Requirements: The work requires skills, patience, and control of emotions. The work may require the using appropriate techniques to use physical restrain clients who present a danger to self or others. The work may also require assisting physically disabled clients and may include assisting patient's mobility by pushing a wheelchair. ["The Addiction Therapist (Licensed Master's) is will be a member of the interdisciplinary team that provides rehabilitation and counseling therapy services to Veterans and their significant others in a residential setting. The incumbent is a member of the interdisciplinary team that provides services to our Veterans receiving treatment at our brand new state of the art 40 bed Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program. Duties include but not limited to: Uses a wide range of methods adapted to specific patient's needs. Evaluates complex psychological signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drugs to develop patient's treatment plan along with interdisciplinary team. Identifies coexisting Psychiatric conditions, dual diagnosis, general medical conditions, psychosocial and environment problems. Participates in the creation of an individualized treatment plan. Evaluates patients who are often difficult, uncooperative, non-receptive and at times hostile. Manages complex emotional and behavioral situations and establish a positive relationship to help patients with SUD. Completes a variety of required measurement-based instruments such as of the BAM and the CPRS AUDIT-C and Depression reminders. Documents results and progress during the various stages of treatment. Explains SUD assessment results to patients served, to identify and rank problems based on individual patient's needs and formulate long terms goals in the written treatment plan to provide coherence and guidance of the therapeutic activities. Provides an overview of program operation to the patient. Gathers relevant history using appropriate interview techniques to identify substance use problems and enhance treatment plan. Ability to recognize issues that are beyond Addiction Therapist's knowledge and to refer to the appropriate disciplines. Independently evaluates and identifies the patient's needs and develops a proposed treatment plan. Provides groups therapies. Other Duties as required. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Note: The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
