About the PositionAs part of a multidisciplinary team, the Court Transporter provides general therapeutic procedures and personal care service for patients admitted to an acute care psychiatric treatment facility. The Court Transporter functions as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary treatment team responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients and assist with the provision of basic patient care and recovery needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Court Transporter provides and documents interventions in a variety of modalities individually matched to the needs of each patient. The incumbent provides group as well as individual interaction with patients receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment in adherence with established treatment guidelines and agency policies and procedures.Position Functions and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Assumes responsibility for patients going to court both during transportation and while at court.- Takes all reasonable measures to ensure that patients do not elope (escape) when transporting to and from courtrooms. - Works with patients, hospital and court staff on implementing legal commitment procedures, as necessary.- In coordination with other hospital staff assigned to court, will document in each patients' charts the time of leaving for court and the time of return to the Hospital. Informs the court evaluators, staff and the legal coordinator of all pertinent information regarding patients while in court hearings. - Maintains an understanding and awareness of unit policies and procedures, especially in regard to patient safety and Management of assaultive/self-harm behavior.- When patient is determined to be a significant safety risk to self or others, will work with nurse to place orders for restraints which will be used during transport to and from courtroom.- Assists patients through crisis situations and using MOAB and de-escalation skills; identifies and corrects actual/potential hazards in patient environment. - Participates in on going in-service education as pertains to position.- Assists in orientation of new staff members to court transportation procedures as requested.- Provides milieu management of units when not performing duties related to court.- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.- Follows agency infection control policies and procedures. - Assists with maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions and applying appropriate emotional and physical support.- Performs or assists with the admission of new patients by gathering routine information for nursing assessment, searches patients and belongings for contraband, documents belongings and other appropriate information.- Orients the patient and patient's family to the facility and the policies and procedures.- Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.- Assists with initiating and contributing to patient treatment planning, teaching and discharge planning.- Participates in patient care team conferences by sharing observations of patient's progress toward identified goals and assists the RN with the development, evaluation, and revision of patient care plans.- Collaborates with therapy team to develop and implement groups that support the recovery process and enhance patient goal attainment- Participates in the implementation of treatment plans which clearly identify the patient's voice, treatment strategies, and specific outcome measures- Meets unit documentation standards- Tailors effective interventions to meet diverse patient diagnostic and cultural needs- Provides person-centered advocacy for patients as needed and directed by the care team- Assists with milieu management by being present with patients on the unit and assisting as needed with daily activities- Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values, continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned- Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards. Maintains reliable attendance.Position RequirementsSkills, Education, & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or any other human services field required o Two (2) years of inpatient Behavioral Health experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree
One (1) year of direct patient care experience preferred
Must obtain Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor registration within 60 days of hire unless a higher credential is held
Current Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR) or C.N.A.
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association, American Red Cross or WA State Dept. of L&I
First aid card through American Red Cross, American Heart Association, WA State Dept. of L&I
Ability to obtain a King County Food Handlers Permit prior to start date
