About the Department:

Health and Behavioral Innovations in Technology (HABIT) Group, led by Dr. Jonathan Bricker, is part of the Cancer Prevention Program in the Division of Public Health Sciences at the Fred Hutchinson. Funded by multiple large NIH grants ($25 million USD cumulative total to date), the Group's research mission is to develop and rigorously test behavioral interventions for health behavior change, and disseminate them with the goal of high public health impact. Technologies for delivering these interventions include smartphone applications, chatbots, websites, and telephone counseling. One of the behavioral approaches the Group has been testing is called Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Responsibilities

The Group is seeking a Fidelity Coder who can contribute to our mission of using rigorous behavioral science and technology to directly impact public health. With direct supervision from the lead trainer, Dr. Christeine Terry, and as specified by the research protocol, the Fidelity Coder will perform Acceptance & Commitment Therapy fidelity assessments and inter-rater assessment calibrations on a random sample of audio-recorded weight loss counseling sessions conducted as part of a large randomized trial testing a telephone weight loss behavioral intervention. The Coder will closely collaborate with Dr. Terry and the other Fidelity Coder on the coding activities, and will also work with Dr. Bricker and the HABIT Group as needed on other research projects. Training on ACT, counseling techniques, and fidelity coding will be provided. Salary is commensurate with experience, and scheduling is flexible.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the counseling techniques employed by the intervention, and the ability to recognize/identify the required therapeutic skills in practice.
• Perform fidelity assessments as per protocol; maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of the assessments.
• Participate in regular quality review meetings for assessment/enhancement of inter-rater reliability. Provide constructive peer consultation and quality review to help other fidelity coders maximize their contributions to the project and accept same. As needed, adjust methods and performance as agreed upon in consultation with the supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree, in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health or a related field of health
• Excellent organizational, verbal communication, and listening skills
• Proven attention to detail and demonstrated dependability
• Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in behavioral interventions
• Prior experience with the use of fidelity evaluation instruments for behavioral interventions
• A passion for helping those who smoke tobacco or are obese

Work Schedule: Hourly (~16 hours per week)

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.53 to $29.23 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
