The Mobile Crisis Response (MCRT) & Mobile Crisis Outreach (MCOT) Teams with the Johnson County Mental Health Center are seeking two Mental Health Clinicians to provide mobile mental health crisis and outreach.
MCRT & MCOT are comprised of crisis case managers and licensed clinicians based out of the Mission office but geared toward work in the community. Flexibility is necessary for the evening MCRT position due to daytime meetings and trainings. We currently have two openings:
MCRT: Wednesday – Saturday, 2 pm – 12 am
MCOT: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
About the Teams: MCRT is dedicated to resolving emergency situations by providing brief and intensive services to reduce individuals’ needs for hospitalization and law enforcement interaction when possible and supporting client connection to resources including but not limited to mental health care. The goals of MCOT include ensuring the emergent mental health needs of Johnson County residents are met, resolving emergency situations by providing brief and intensive services, reducing clients’ needs for hospitalization and law enforcement interaction when possible, and supporting client connection to services including but not limited to mental health care.
About the Positions: The Crisis Clinician will have two primary roles on the team: in-person crisis response and de-escalation in the community & ongoing clinical support. For crisis response, the Crisis Clinician will be paired with a Crisis Case Manager to de-escalate, assess and support individuals through their crisis and complete timely follow up to ensure the individual connects to appropriate resources and/or the crisis has resolved. For ongoing clinical support, the Crisis Clinician will provide ongoing clinical support for clients on case managers’ caseloads. This includes outreach visits with Crisis Case Managers to high acuity clients or those with complex circumstances for the purposes of clinical assessment, safety planning, and crisis stabilization.
The qualified candidate will have a strong desire to provide intensive crisis intervention services to the community, be well versed in suicide and safety assessments, be willing to strongly advocate for the best interests of the clients we serve and have a strong passion for public service. What You’ll Do:
Provide mobile or in-office crisis response to behavioral health crises occurring in the community with an MCRT case manager
De-escalate, assess & support individuals through their crisis
Complete timely follow-up to ensure the individual connects to appropriate resources & resolves crisis
Provide ongoing clinical support for clients
Perform outreach visits with case managers to high acuity clients or those with complex circumstances for the purpose of clinical assessment, safety planning & crisis stabilization
Respond across Johnson County as part of a 2-person team, provide mobile crisis interventions to a variety of individuals in crisis.
Assess risk and develop thorough safety and/or crisis stabilization plans, refer to higher level of care when needed and maintaining client safely in the community when possible.
Complete clinical assessments primarily for the purposes of crisis intervention and JCMHC diagnostic intakes, but also as needed for state hospitalization screening
Complete state hospitalization screening and collaborate with law enforcement on emergency detention as appropriate relating to the crisis.
Provide support, education, and connection to resources, as needed for appropriate crisis response.
Provide proactive outreach to prevent mental health crisis and/or criminal justice recidivism.
Collaborate with JCMHC teams, law enforcement, family members, hospitals and other community agencies to advocate and partner for individuals’ needs, collaborate with other providers in the development and implementation of services for clients
Complete and submit clinical documentation regarding services provided
Maintain the utmost confidentiality of both agency and client matters
What We Require:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field
Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master’s level in the area of focus
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
*Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if Kansas licensure is obtained by time of an employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of employment application.

Johnson County Mental Health Center is a department within the Johnson County, Kansas Government and serve residents living with a mental illness. Populations served include adults and young adults with serious mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbance, as well as individuals with a co-occurring substance abuse disorder. Additionally, services are provided to those individuals who are experiencing acute psychological distress that may result in an intensive level of service such as hospitalization.
