Under the supervision of the Chief Psychologist, the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I (SPSWI), plans, organizes, and directs the psychiatric social work program. The SPSW I maintains adherence to social work policies of the department; conduct staff meetings; train staff, evaluates staff performance and takes or recommend appropriate action; personally performs or supervises research relating to psychiatric social work; participates in staff conferences; assists in the development of effective social work procedures; works with institutional and headquarters staff for the purpose of improving policies and procedures as they relate to the social work program; develops and directs discharge planning and arranges for referral of patients and/or inmates for placement and community resources; addresses groups on the psychiatric social work program ;dictates correspondence and prepares reports. The direct supervision of staff and area(s) of responsibility will vary based on the assigned area of the SPSWI. The SPSWI provides general supervision to the Clinical Social Workers. Responsible for the overall supervision of the following programs: Department of Mental Health (DMH) Referrals, Correctional clinical Case Management System (CCCMS) program, Parole Planning, Group Treatment Coordination, RVR Coordination, Education and Training. In addition responds to 602 appeals.
